Strategies to survive to wifi! #tutticonnessi #stayconnected

After a requested meeting with theICT area in which we put forward a proposal on the architecture of the network to improve the service in general and to examine the situation of wifi and internet connection in general at the Politecnico di Milano, having read the data regarding the Qos, network saturation rates, SNR and numbers of connected devices, we realized that, agreeing with what was said by the managers, the fastest way to improve the service is to use it more efficiently!

Waiting for the state of the art of the University network service to be illustrated to all the representatives last November 27th during the Permanent Student Commission, we propose 4 best practices to improve your personal experience with the network and that, in general, of the community to which #siamotutticonnessi!

Parallel to our more conscious use, the institutions will strive to improve the service with the installation of more modern equipment with the aim of achieving complete coverage and bringing the limit of bandwidth use to 2 Mbps.

4 best practices to improve your personal experience with the Politecnico di Milano network and that, in general, of the community to which #siamotutticonnessi!

Turn off the bluetooth connection in devices that you will not use in the classroom, you will reduce interference to the access points of the network and the connection will acquire more stability.

Use the wired network via ethernet where there is: this has no bandwidth limit! You can search for classrooms with workstations equipped with a network socket in the Search Classrooms application from the www.polimi.it website.

Follow the path:
Search Classrooms > Advanced
Search _spuntando the item
Only classrooms with workstations equipped with a network socket_

  • Turn off tethering connection sharing from your smartphone: you will reduce interference to network access points and the connection will gain more stability!
  • Report directly to the Online Support Forum of the University ICT service classrooms or areas of the campus where it is not possible to connect or there are other inefficiencies. Once the report ticket has been received, the ICT area will immediately analyze the problem. We have also proposed that the Online Assistance Forum be integrated into the official app of the Politecnico di Milano, so that those who cannot connect from their laptop have the opportunity to use their smartphone to instantly report a disservice to the ICT Service. The proposal was welcomed!
