Senate and Board of Directors – What happened in February

The meeting of the academic senate in February opened with the presentation of the Polisocial Award 2018 initiative, an initiative that sees us among the few Italian universities to develop this type of theme.

It is "an initiative that promotes the development of scientific research with a high social impact, financed with the contribution of 5 x thousand IRPEF destined to the Politecnico di Milano.

The 2018 edition is dedicated to the themes of Cooperation and Development and the geographical area of reference for research projects is Africa. The funded projects have as their thematic scope that of Smart Cities and Communities and propose multidisciplinary research paths aimed at identifying local development plans."

Next year the theme will be: sport and social inclusion, we have proposed to involve students more in this area, in due course we will work on it.

The proposal for a Mitigation Plan and CO2 emission reduction targets of the Politecnico di Milano was also approved, aimed at working on the reduction of CO2 emissions, also following what was established with the Paris Agreement.

The emissions of those who attend our University were analyzed and it emerged that most of the emissions concern the modes of transport and electricity for example.

Proposals have been made to reduce emissions: the optimization of the trigenerator of the Leonardo and Bovisa sites, the replacement of 90% of lighting fixtures by 2025 and 100% by 2030.

To produce 1MW in 2025 and 2 MW in 2030 through photovoltaic energy, the replacement of refrigeration machines present in the University, interventions on the opaque and glossy surfaces of buildings, a better regulation of cold and hot distribution.

We will also move towards more sustainable mobility: through policies on the cost of public transport, agreements with carsharing and parking, to reduce emissions for access to the campus.

The targets of 25% reduction in emissions for 2025 and 35% reduction in 2030 compared to 2015 data are therefore set.

In this sense, it is proposed to involve students more, also on the didactic level.

The calls for admission for the A were also approved .A. 2019/2020 to the degree courses of the School of Design and to the degree course in Urban Planning: City Environment Landscape and that of the theses abroad

Finally, thedouble Master's Degree agreement with Tsinghua University, for the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, was approved. It was an important result and not easy to achieve, which will surely provide new possibilities for the students of the AUIC school.

The Board of Directors of 25/02 announced several innovations in the life of the Polytechnic.

As every year, the call for scholarships for theses abroad for the A is reapproved.A. 2018/19. We remind you that to participate you must have already defined your thesis project.

The Polytechnic will also land in Abruzzo, through a scientific agreement with the municipality of Pescocostanzo (AQ) whose purpose is to develop joint training and research initiatives. The convention promotes a process of sharing themes considered central to the protection and enhancement of minor urban systems and the landscape context of reference.

In the first implementation, the following areas of interest for research are identified:

  • characteristics of the rural and forest landscape
  • quality of urban space and existing, residual and newly designed activities
  • economies for reception and compatible fruition in fragile contexts

For Piacenza and Cremona, however, the time has finally come to renew the university canteens. As the students of the two territorial poles well know, since June 2018 the catering service has been closed due to the economic unsustainability of the activities.

For this reason, the Politecnico has launched the tender procedures for catering services, taking particular account of the tender parameters in order to encourage the maximum participation of small/medium-sized economic operators and facilitate the economic sustainability of the service.

It is also proposed to reduce the minimum opening hours for both structures from 11.30 to 14.30, in order to reduce the fixed personnel costs for the manager during hours of low use of the service. In any case, the manager will have the right to carry out longer service hours, if its economic sustainability is found.

We consider it very important that the Territorial Poles of Piacenza and Cremona have their own catering services, in order to guarantee an optimal basic service for students, professors and PTA. Student life also passes through the canteen and we representatives will continue to monitor the success of this service, keeping in mind all possible margins for improvement.

A greeting
