Press release Unilab Svoltastudenti 16-07-2014

This afternoon, during the sitting reserved for parliamentary questions of the Chamber of Deputies, the Hon. Minister Giannini answered a question onInternationalization and on the question of the Politecnico di Milano, the same one presented several times by Unilab Svoltastudenti in the National Council of University Students.

On the part of the Minister there was firm conviction on the objectiveof internationalization of our university system, reiterating several times the need to provide universities with multiple tools, including the use of the English language, to achieve this goal.

In particular, the Minister feels"culturally, scientifically and politically"fully close to the motivations that led the Politecnico di Milano to inspire its strategic planning action in the field of teaching activity with internationalization actions that provide for the use of the English language and its enhancement.

Overall, we are satisfied with the Minister's response on the need for internationalization of the university system as a key to the opening of Italy towards the European and non-European panorama.

We also fully agree with the idea of encouraging universities to do internationalization through the inclusion of a special indicator in the FFO rewards, an idea that we also expressed in the National Council of University Students, even if we believe that the same is a prize and not a tool through which universities can finance their teaching and research strategies.

However, we hope that in the coming days there will be a quick and decisive action by the Minister so that the situation in which the Politecnico di Milano finds itself can be resolved in the best possible way, avoiding that the sentence of the Council of State of November can cancel the internationalization process already started. In fact, following the implementation of the new rules and the introduction of master's degree courses in English, in addition to the numerous Italian students, as many as 7,150 international students have applied for enrollment at the Politecnico di Milano of which the best 2,562 have been admitted and that, these excellent students, as a result of the litigation procedure in progress, risk not seeing the degree course for which they have applied for enrollment and for which they are planning Ando its arrival in our country with obvious negative consequences for the entire university system and for the credibility of Italy during the Italian semester of Presidency of the European Union.
