New Master's Degree in Mathematical Engineering

<!–StartFragment–>

Several months after taking office, we want to update you on the work that the Council of the Course of Studies has carried out and on the decisions we have taken.

From next year it will be possible to carry out in Erasmus also the exam, mandatory for all majors of master's degrees, of ALGORITHMS AND PARALLEL COMPUTING, which constituted, together with REAL AND FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS, an exception to the possibilities of choices of exams abroad.

The Double Master's Degree with ENSIEE will be modified, going from a total of 180 CFU to 150 CFU. This choice was made to make the Double Degree course less time-consuming, since it represents a limiting factor.

We have activated a monitoring of the staggered courses (currently first and second year), aimed at ensuring the fairness of the examination and evaluation methods. In addition, the data coming from the parallel exercises will be analyzed, to ensure the absence of obvious imbalances that lead to "migrations" from one trainer to another.

We have modified the possibilities for the courses of your choice of the second semester of the third year, that is, the 5 CFU versions of the courses of MODELS AND METHODS OF STATISTICAL INFERENCE and analytical and numerical methods of the E are suppressed.D.P. who were chosen by an extremely limited number of students and this decision allowed the elimination of limitations in the didactic choices in the 10 CFU versions, favoring almost all the students.

The biggest change and of which we are most proud concerns the new manifesto of the Master's Degree, which will be valid as early as next year. In addition to the modification of the manifesto itself, the idea is to make the choice of the study plan much more flexible; in this regard, the draft of the manifesto has been made available to all students before the deadline for the six-month modification, to allow those who already attend the master's degree to modify their previous choices according to the new manifesto

From next year, 11 new courses will be provided by our Course of Studies, in a non-onerous way for the first year and burdensome by the following in case of confirmation:

  • COMPUTATIONAL STATISTICS (8 CFU, 3 DI)
  • COMPUTATIONAL TECHNIQUES FOR MOLECULAR MODELLING (4+4 CFU)
  • DETERMINISTIC AND STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL CONTROL THE- ORY (5 CFU)
  • DISCRETE AND GEOMETRIC TOMOGRAPHY (5 CFU)
  • DYNAMICAL SYSTEM (5 CFU)
  • FINTECH (8 CFU, 3 DI)
  • LOW FREQUENCY COMPUTATIONAL ELECTROMAGNETICS (5 CFU)
  • NON-PARAMETRIC STATISTICS (8 CFU, 3 DI)
  • NUMERICAL ANALYSIS FOR MACHINE LEARNING (8 CFU – 10 CFU, 2 DI)
  • REACTION-DIFFUSION EQUATIONS (5 CFU)
  • COMPUTATIONAL ALGEBRAIC TOPOLOGY (5 CFU)

In addition to these, many other courses borrowed from other Courses of Study will also be added, which we will not list here given the quantity. The most significant change in our opinion is the expansion of the ING group, which goes from only 5 exams to 25, removing the forcing that often the study plans were forced to undergo.

Although the new manifesto does not contain the old Authorized Autonomous Paths (PAA), these will remain valid, both for those who were already carrying out one, and for those who want to start it in the coming years.

A warm greeting from your representatives. We are available for all your curiosity or information!
